The University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez MARC Program, sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), has been designed to provide honors students with research related activities and a special science curriculum that will improve their possibilities of being accepted on a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. program and being successful in biomedical research graduate programs. The Program accepts students from the Biology, Chemistry, Industrial Microbiology, Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering Departments.

Development activities for all university Freshmen and Sophomore students:

  • Orientation on research careers and opportunities in Biomedical sciences
Junior and Senior MARC trainees:

  • Trip to the national ABRCMS conference, to attend important seminars and present summer research
  • Summer research opportunities in universities in the United States
  • Weekly conferences about current issues in science research
  • Monthly stipend
  • Travel funds ($1,000 per year)
  • Research materials ($600.00)
