I received my BS in Statistics from the UNA , La Molina, Peru, my MS in Applied Mathematics from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica, Lima, Peru and my Ph.D in Statistics from the University of Rochester, New York. Currently I am professor of Statistics and CISE in the department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Campus. I was a Fulbright scholar for the academic year 2009. I was selected by the editors of the Hispanic Engineer and Information Technology magazine(Baltimore, USA) as one of Power Hitter in Business and Technology among the hispanic scientists for the year 2003. Usually I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied statistics, data analysis, data mining, machine learning, and statistical methods for Bioinformatics. Choose the option teaching to see materials (mostly in spanish) on the courses that I have taught over the last 20 years. Currently I am doing research in computational and statistical methods for data mining, machine learning, data streams and massive datasets ( Big data) . I am also interested in applications of functional data analysis. Until 2009, My research was supported with funds from the Department of Defense and the Office of Naval Research.
