This work has already been mentioned in the classroom.  It is due printed in class on Wednesday, September 5th,  2007. Incomplete, late, and/or handwritten assignments will not be accepted or graded.  You may turn in the assignment in advance.  You will want to keep a copy on a floppy in case of problems.
You must work with ALL  of the following items.  Carefully IDENTIFY all sources you use in doing this work.  Your work will be in the form of paragraphs for each of the items below.

1) Review at least five different definitions of plagiarism and write down the three (3) best definitions you find in the exact words you find. Enclose the definitions in "quotation marks" and tell where you found this information.  Give the bibliographic information for books or print sources and identify the URL (web address) for internet sources for all five sources you checked.
2) Write your own definition of plagiarism in your own words.  You can do this best by NOT looking at any other sources while you are writing. Make sure you haven't accidentally copied (or just substituted synonyms) from any of your sources.  Compare your definition with the others you found.  Which one is best? Why?
3) Make a list in your own words of clues, or evidence, or observations, or signs that might indicate to a reader that a person had plagiarized part of her/his work. There are many, so include at least six.  The more clues or signs you identify, the better your grade will be on this part of the assignment.  
4)  If you find a great source in Spanish and translate it into English and use it in your work without giving credit or documenting the source, is that plagiarism?  Why or why not?

5) You are the English professor! Ja ja!  You suspect one of your students has plagiarized part of his/her work in your class.  How will you show your student his/her work has been plagiarized? What evidence will you use?  What strategies and resources will you use to determine if the student is plagiarizing part (or all) of his work?

6)You have now discovered proof (evidence) that the student plagiarized part of her/his work.   What will you do with the student?  Can he/she still pass the class?  How will this affect his/her grade? What if he/she says they just "forgot" to document their work completely?

7)You decided to fail a student who plagiarized a large written work after completing the Plagiarism Project.  The parents are angry because the student failed the course and lost the beca.  They believe you treated their child unfairly.  In a paragraph, give them your three best justifications for failing the student, AND your explanation of why not failing their child would be treating the other students in your class unfairly.
