Schedule and Readings for 3202
Tentative Spring 2007 Readings 3202
Here is the reading list. Most if not all are the readings are accessible by links available above in the List of links page. Many -but NOT all- of these readings can be found in the Norton Introduction to Literature, 6th, 7th, and 8th Shorter editions. In some cases, a reading may be in only one of the editions. They are on Reserve in the library, and there are usually several copies of each edition available. These texts also have short biographies for several of the authors of the readings we will use. It is often helpful to know something about the authors of the materials you read, what was happening when/where they lived, etc.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTIFYING, GETTING, AND READING A NOVEL OR OTHER WORK OF FICTION. THE TITLE OF THIS WORK WILL BE NEGOTIATED WITH YOUR PROFESSOR BEFORE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND TO GIVE YOU TIME TO FINISH. WE WILL BE DISCUSSING THIS IN CLASS.
If a reading is added, removed, or moved out of sequence, the other readings will remain in the sequence in which they appear here. Our discussion may be behind the reading list, but I may ask you (yes, even a quiz!) about any readings according to this schedule. It is a smart action on your part to read ahead of the list, and to make sure you can find the materials with time to read them before the dates mentioned in the list. If there is a problem with any of the links I provide you, please inform me immediately. Also, take the initiative to do your own search to see if you can find the materials through other sources and share your results with me..
I encourage you to look for additional readings or references that may help in understanding the readings, in giving background information, or in providing material you can use for comparison and analysis for your research paper or for your essays in this class. Also, if a reading we have in class should remind you of a movie, a song, story, book, current event, etc., or you see a connection between some outside material you have seen and something we are reading here, please mention it in class.
