Related Links

Yes, there's a whole big world out there we need to know about and move around in, even if it is just VIRTUAL exploration!  So here are some places to get started.  There are some categories, and we can create new ones as we need.

Suggest useful links to the professor. (Earn extra points to help decide borderline grades!)
The links might be for more information for a class, or for a special topic, or because you think they'll take us to something valuable.  My main request is that you give me a brief one or two sentence description of what we'll find when we get there, or why we might be interested in going to this place you're recommending.  I will review your suggestion, and give you points (and credit on the website) IF we decide to add the links you suggest.

As an example, here's a place that always has interesting ideas to make people think:
IDEA  SOURCES

ADBUSTERS   This is a group that is concerned with media's presentations of materialist and consumerist attitudes.  These people believe that having fun is an important part of social criticism and commentary.

The Kill Your TV Website A site dedicated to showing how TV is a waste of everybody's time and a menace to society.

Search Engines
Google!  Quick and powerful, one of my favorites!  Also, you can check the Images section to look for graphics/photos about a topic or by keywords.
You may also find web-based definitions for words or phrases by writing in the search bar like these examples - [define: word of mouth] or [define: yearn]
Google has a whole set of tools you can use for maps, webpages, shopping, document revision, etc.  Check them out!

FASTWEB     A site that helps you find scholarship money from a variety of sources, including essay contests and a few other interesting items.

FINAID   Another source of help with applications and online links to different sites.... there may be some overlap with FASTWEB

Resources for help with Writing

General Writing Concerns from Purdue OWL [Online Writing Lab]
This is one of my favorite places to see explanations and examples of processes that are similar to what we do in both English 3201 and English 3202.  Sometimes they even explain it better than I did!  Of course, the examples probably won't be about Puerto Rico....

St. Cloud State University LEO [Literacy Education Online] is the competition and another site with great examples and practice for the learning writer.  It's an easy to use site, with a user friendly guide to the resources there.  A statement or question identifies a student problem as a link, and clicking on the link takes you to examples, explanations, ideas, and discussion.
and another place to check, is the Student Writing Resources page, which is a list of links to different sources of information on a variety of problems.  As you'll see, some of the resources are from the two I've listed above, but there are a wide variety of sources of information, examples, discussions, and ideas.  Try it, you'll like it!
