Claudia Marcela Ospina
Graduate Student (M.Sc.), UPRM
B.Sc. in Agronomic Engineering, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Colombia (2004)
Synopsis - I initiated my research activities in the Insect Museum of the Faculty of Agronomy at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAB), where I developed my undergraduate research project on the springtails (Hexapoda: Collembola) associated with three kinds of grasses in the Department of Antioquia (Colombia). After completing this project I joined the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) where I participated in an internship program to study the springtails associated with cotton and maize crops in the Valle del Cauca. In 2004 I accepted a position as research assistant at CIAT to work on the "Impact of Biotechnology on the Biodiversity" project, including bioassays designed to evaluate the effect of Cry proteins on lepidopteran species. In addition I was assessed the diversity of soil arthropods in cotton and maize plantations at four different localities in Colombia. During the past four years I have studied the Collembola of Colombia. Now as a M.Sc. student at UPRM I will concentrate my research activities on the systematics of the Sminthurididae.
