Synopsis - I was trained as a biologist at the Universidad del Valle with an emphasis in entomology. Since completing my undergraduate studies in 2005, I have worked on security essays of Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) crops using soil arthropods. For my Bachelor's degree project I investigated the potential effects of Bollgard cotton on the diversity and abundance of soil arthropods in the Valle del Cauca, Colombia. After that I took a position as research assistant at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) where I continued working with soil arthropods in Bt corn and cotton cultivars. My M.Sc. project at UPRM will focus on the molecular phylogenetics of broad-nosed weevils.
